Storage is considered a commodity because it is one. Nobody cares about infrastructure anymore… what they care about are the applications that power the business.
Though it took me a while to sort it out, that’s what makes Actifio unique. Where 20th century data protection (meaning all the established vendors) is architected up from the infrastructure, Actifio started with a blank sheet of paper, and architected down from the application SLA. In a nutshell we virtualize data to decouple it from the storage in much the same way VMware decoupled compute from the server… making it faster, cheaper, and simpler to manage, access, and protect.
